Solid Surface Countertops

Solid surface countertops are durable, non-porous and have a seamless appearance. Solid surface countertops are created by pouring crushed up pieces of stone and acrylics into a mold. Sometimes called “synthetic stone”, these countertops are becoming increasingly popular in homes. Sold under various brand names including Corian, Avonite, and Silestone, they offer a fine option for strength and looks. Their wide range of colours and patterns are designed to mimic the look of stone, granite and quartz.

Solid surface countertops are easy to care for and are highly resistant to bacteria, mold and mildew. Although they are less resistant to scratches and heat than their stone counterparts, they can be easily renewed and are usually a more affordable countertop choice.

While no regular maintenance is required for solid surface countertops, these countertops can be cleaned with a damp microfiber cloth and mild dish soap and water works well for dirtier areas – towel dry after. Unlike laminate countertops, solid surface types are seamless, allowing the use of mild abrasives on these countertops. Use baking soda or another mild abrasive cleaner for tough cleaning spots and stains. Really difficult stains or spots may benefit from a solid-surface cleaning spray.
