Collecting vintage pieces is a passion for our client and homeowner Christine Murphy. That’s why it’s no surprise that the Mississauga, Ontario abode she purchased 20 years ago is a designated heritage home. Built circa 1860, it had a feature commonly found in older houses: a disjointed layout reined in most of the house, including the kitchen. Seeking a functional spacious cooking and eating area for themselves and their two children, Christine and her husband, Steve, decided to relocate the kitchen to an area at the rear of the home because it is more specious and lit by large windows featured on two main walls.

Christine Murphy was born and raised in England and owned her first AGA cast iron range for more than 19 years. She chose the classic Swedish cooker, a staple in many Eastern European and English homes, to heat the kitchen, to remind her of back home and because she insists it makes the best toast! The island’s cast iron base was an antiques market find, while its countertop is made of old natural barnboard wood, which gives this kitchen that much more character and uniqueness.

Kitchen cabinets used to help and design this kitchen are designed by Patricia Noddle from Kitchen Land and manufactured by Canadian cabinet manufacturer Decor Cabinets from Manitoba. Door style is Shaker & Slab door combined together in one kitchen, where one wall with double drawer cabinets  created with slab drawers. Using door style is PP430 Shaker style with “D” finish edge in “Diamond Frost” color.  Upper cabinets are simple shaker style with large glass inserts, finished in the same color as on the outside,  in order to match the exterior of the kitchen door. Cup pull handles are another detail that pull out English country detail by being featured in Tuscan bronze finish.  Counter top is quartz by Caesarstone Quartz featured in “Vivid White” color.
