Kitchen Cabinets – Regular Everyday Cleaning

December 21, 2017

To avoid having to do a thorough cleaning of your kitchen cabinets too often, you should clean up any spills and splatters immediately as prolonged exposure to spills, including food, water or other liquids, or to oil and grease splatters, can cause permanent discoloration or damage to your cabinet’s finish. Also, utilize the hood fan while cooking to prevent that heavy buildup of grease on your cabinets and use a clean, soft lint-free cotton cloth for regular dusting. If you want to dust your cabinets on a daily basis, use a dry microfiber cloth or a Swiffer duster.

For light, less regular cleaning, a soft cotton cloth dampened with warm water is usually sufficient to clean your cabinets. If more thorough cleaning is required, simply wipe them down using a fresh solution of mild hand dish washing liquid mixed with warm water. After this cleaning, wipe all surfaces with a clean, damp cloth and dry immediately using another soft, clean cloth.

Freshening the Interior
Every six months, you can clean out the inside of your cabinets. Begin by removing their contents. Wipe down each shelf with a mild dish soap and water then dry with a clean cloth. Place the shelf back – upside down if you can, to prevent warping – then place a small box of baking soda in each cabinet to get keep a fresh smell.

Cleaning Glass Doors
Extra care is required when cleaning glass doors. An ammonia-free glass cleaner should be sprayed onto a clean, soft, lint-free cloth or paper towel. Do not spray cleaner directly on the glass as it could seep behind the window dividers and cause damage.
